SSBII: Surface Science for Biologically Important Interfaces
Surface Science for Biologically Important Interfaces (SSBII) was set up to establish a network of surface scientists with interests in systems of biological relevance and to promote discussions with clinical and biological scientists. SSBII will provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and expertise and will publicise research work of constituent members. SSBII will also stimulate future research which is relevant, viable and focused through the involvement of clinicians, biologists and industry and will encourage collaboration between groups enabling greater access to expensive, sophisticated, specialist equipment. SSBII will also provide a forum to address technical problems and experimental limitations and will encourage development of novel techniques and approaches from the surface science instrumentation industry for biological and clinical applications.
SSBII aims to bring together the following people:
- surface scientists with conventional physics, chemistry and materials backgrounds and expertise
- surface scientists who are beginning to become involved in the area of biomaterials and are starting to develop focused research in this area
- clinicians, biologists and industrial manufacturers who have identified problems where surface science techniques may prove relevant in providing a solution and the surface science instrumentation industry.
